5 Ways to Persist in Your Assumption to Manifest Your Desire [Persistent Assumption by Neville Goddard]
How awesome would it be if you actually had that desire you long for?
Well, if you can persist in your assumption, you can have anything you want! In this blog, we’ll explore what it means to persist in your assumption and how to actually do it.
Let’s dive in!
What I cover in this article:
What Is the Law of Assumption
Firstly, let’s briefly explain what this law is about:
The law of assumption (not to be confused with the law of attraction) is one of the principles which governs reality. Thanks to the teachings of Neville Goddard, it became widely known.
It is based on the premise that our imagination creates reality.
What you assume to be true must manifest.
It’s the law, and it has to happen.
The key to successful manifestation is to assume that all things you desire are already yours.
If you’re entirely new to the law of assumption, I suggest you read the full article.
Who Was Neville Goddard
Neville Lancelot Goddard (February 19, 1905 – October 1, 1972) was a spiritual teacher, author, speaker, and mystic who believed that the human imagination is the key to manifesting one’s desires.
If I could summarize the core message of Neville Goddard’s teachings in one sentence, it would be this:
By accessing the power of your imagination, you can bypass the limitations of your reasonable mind and outer senses to manifest your desires.
By utilizing our wonderful human imagination, we can manifest the life of our dreams. Imagination is the link between the conscious and subconscious mind, and by using it to change our inner state, we can change our outer reality.
According to Neville, a persistent assumption is crucial for successful manifestation.

Developing Persistence
Persistence is the key to success in any endeavor. It is the ability to keep persevering even when encountering setbacks and disappointments.
The stronger your ability to remain persistent on your manifesting journey, the greater your chances of achieving what you want.
But don’t worry if you’re still struggling with it. Persistence is a trait that can be developed.
So, my first tip is:
Start seeing yourself as persistent. That will automatically speed up all your desires.
By assuming the identity of the person we wish to be and building a strong self concept, we can manifest our wildest dreams.
Living in the End
“Living in the end” is another frequently used expression in the manifesting community.
It is closely related to persisting in your assumption. In a way, it’s a prerequisite for persisting.
So, what does it mean exactly to live in the end?
It means:
Embodying the state of already having what you want.
You first want to experience what having your desire feels like. And then learn how to persist in that feeling.
It’s essential to get familiar with that feeling first:
Simply construct a small imaginal scene that implies you already have your desire.
How does it feel to have your desire?
By using your imagination, you can put yourself in the state of the wish fulfilled.
Once you get to that end result, you will have a sense of relief. Perhaps even an insight like: “Oh, that’s it! It is done!”.
When you get into that state, you’ll feel like there is nothing more you need to do to get your desire.
It’s already yours.
What Is a Persistent Assumption?
Persisting in your assumption means being in the state of your desire fulfilled until your desire manifests.
It’s not enough to just know what you want and to occasionally imagine having it. But unfortunately, that’s what most people do.
You need to cultivate the experience of already having your desire.
It’s living in that experience that allows your desire to come into form.
When you persevere in your assumption, your external world must restructure itself to satisfy that assumption.
But in most cases, people keep focusing and reacting to their outer world.
And then, that reactive behavior hinders their assumptions.
Let me remind you:
The only thing you have to do is to remain faithful to your assumption until your outer world becomes a reflection of the inner state of your desire fulfilled.
Neville taught that we must dare to assume that all things are possible to imagine. And then test our reality by assuming we’re already the person we want to be.
If you can do that, your reality must conform to your assumption.
Don’t let doubts or setbacks discourage you – keep holding onto the assumption of your desire even if your senses may deny it’s coming to fruition.
That is the key to receiving your assumption.
Do You Need to Keep Persisting in the Assumption of the Wish Fulfilled All the Time?
Short answer – no.
You’re not going to stay in any state all of the time. It’s not how it works.
It’s okay if that end state is fleeting. When you notice that you’re out of it, do your technique of choice, and it’ll put you back into it.
You can practice visualization, repeat affirmations, script a story, etc. Whatever works for you. It doesn’t matter what the technique is as long as it helps you to embody that state.
The goal is to get back into the end state effortlessly and automatically. It is not necessarily easy at first, but with practice, it gets easier and more accessible.
That’s why we practice getting into it regularly.
How to Persist in Your Assumption?
One of the most common questions I get asked when it comes to the law of assumption is how to persevere in one’s assumption.
In order to clarify that question, I came up with the 5 “rules” (it’s more like a checklist, really) that will help:
#1 Focus on your inner world and disregard outer reality.
As you’ve probably guessed:
The first rule in persisting is to focus on your inner world and disregard your outer reality.
Like the majority of us, you were probably taught to use external evidence to confirm your thoughts and beliefs – which are all assumptions.
That is precisely the reason why many people fail to manifest. They usually persist and feel great for a few days until something unwanted occurs.
But then, they get impatient and start reacting to their conditions negatively, which throws them back into the old habitual way of being.
It’s also important to mention:
Based on the law of assumption, your entire reality is just a reflection of your consciousness.
And it won’t change on its own. You must change your inner state first!
The external world is simply a manifestation of what you assumed in the past.
That means it may take some time for your outer world to catch up once you begin changing your inner state.
Remember:
Dare to assume you already are exactly who you desire to be, regardless of what your physical senses tell you!
#2 Avoid discussing your assumptions until your desire manifests
In the process of manifesting your desire, it’s crucial to avoid conversations about your progress as much as you can.
Neville himself emphasized to “tell no man.”
It’s worth noting:
Those interested in the law of assumption often join various manifestation communities. Such communities are great for meeting like-minded people and getting encouraged by success stories.
But, it’s important to avoid discussions about personal desires and their progress until they manifest. Talking about intermediate steps can put you right back in the state of someone who doesn’t have it yet – without even realizing it.
Discussing your current situation means acknowledging that you don’t have what you want yet.
There are a few exceptions to this, but as a general rule, it would be best to avoid talking about your assumption if you’re in the process of manifesting your desire.
#3 Don’t try to “make it happen.”
Another important rule to keep in mind:
There is a fine line between persisting in your assumption and forcing your desire.
The habit of controlling and forcing things to occur is deeply embedded in most people. So you might be forcing your desire to happen even if you’re not aware of it.
Let me explain:
If you feel you have to force things to occur to get what you want, you don’t really believe that it must come to you anyway.
In other words, you’re not truly living in the feeling of the desire fulfilled. If you were, you wouldn’t feel impatient, anxious, or insecure.
The actions you are taking from the state of your desire fulfilled should feel natural to you. They should be automatic. You probably won’t even think about them.
I’d like to remind you once again:
Your only job is to assume that your wish is already fulfilled.
#4 Learn to enjoy your life in the meantime
You’ve heard it said before, many times – it’s important to live in the present moment. It really is.
It will probably take a while until your assumption hardens into fact – and that’s okay. Always remember that you are doing this for long-lasting benefits.
Rather than stressing over how much time it will take and looking for outer evidence to ease your concerns, focus on the present moment and appreciate your life. Find things to be grateful for here and now.
If you continuously seek evidence that your desire is coming, you only hinder your desired manifestation.
On the other hand:
By appreciating and enjoying your life in the NOW, you are shifting your mind to be more open to change.
#5 Keep returning to your assumption frequently
Another important rule is to keep returning to your assumption as frequently as possible.
Keep in mind that persisting in your assumption requires focus and discipline on a daily basis. There’s no way around it.
If you genuinely want to get your desired outcome, you must commit to it.
You have to make it a priority to anchor yourself in the assumption of your desire fulfilled. That’s why I suggest that you create a plan or a daily ritual if you will. By doing so, you will increase your chances of maintaining your assumption.
How to Ensure Persistence
Ok, we briefly covered 5 rules.
Now you can create your own daily routine to help you to stay on track with your assumption.
For example:
- Dedicate your first 15 to 20 minutes after you wake up to visualize, repeat affirmations, or script.
- The same goes for the last 20 minutes before you fall asleep. Use that time to practice being in the state of the wish fulfilled. You can affirm or visualize (SATS) while you’re falling asleep.
- During the day, strive to keep your mental diet in check.
- Enjoy your life in the meanwhile – do those things that make you happy, and schedule them if you need to.
Of course, you don’t have to do all of those things. They’re only suggestions. Do what works best for you.
Try to stick to your daily routine for a minimum of two whole weeks. Then you can modify it – keep what’s working, replace what’s not. Then, commit to it for another 2 weeks.
Repeat that process every 2 weeks until your new assumption becomes your dominant state of being.
If you stick to it, you will undoubtedly experience a shift in how you feel and begin to see the outcomes you want very soon.
