What Is Imagination
Imagination is the power of the mind to create images, ideas, and concepts that are not present in our physical reality.
It’s a tool that we all possess but often don’t use to its full potential.
In fact, many of us have been conditioned to believe that imagination is just something we do as children and has no place in the “real world.”
But the truth is, imagination is a powerful force that can help us create the life we want.
Neville Goddard
Now, if you haven’t heard of Neville Goddard before, let me tell you who he was.
Born in Barbados in 1905, Neville was one of ten children.
He moved to New York City in his teens, following his dream to become an actor.
There Neville encountered Abdullah, an Ethiopian rabbi and a mystic, who became his mentor.
Abdullah, with his knowledge of biblical texts and mysticism, taught Neville how to use his imagination to manifest his desires.
He challenged Neville to live as if his desires were already reality.
Neville’s first major manifestation was his trip back to Barbados, entirely paid for, against all odds.
This experience deepened his understanding of human desires, fears, and the power of imagination.
Neville Goddard’s Teachings About Imagination for Manifestation
Neville was a true pioneer in understanding and teaching how to use your imagination to create reality.
And trust me when I say, his teachings are as relevant today as they were back in the 20th century.
I remember the first time I stumbled upon Neville’s work. It was during a period in my life when things seemed bleak, and I felt stuck.
You know that feeling?
Like you’re just not where you want to be, no matter how hard you try?
Yeah, that was me.
But then, as if by magic (or manifestation), Neville’s teachings found their way into my life, and everything started to shift.
So, why am I so excited to share this with you?
Because learning how to effectively use your imagination to manifest is like discovering you have a superpower that’s been dormant all along.
And who doesn’t want to unlock their inner superhero?
That’s the kind of journey Neville Goddard invites us on in his book, Awakened Imagination.
According to Neville, imagination is the first cause, the creative power, and the fundamental reality.
It is “the actual creative power of God within you.”
Awakened Imagination
When we talk about awakened imagination, we’re referring to the state where our imagination is fully activated and working in harmony with our desires.
It’s when we’re able to see, feel, and experience our desires as if they have already manifested in our reality.
It’s like waking up inside a dream and realizing you can control the narrative.
The physical world is a projection of imagination.
If we persist in our imaginal act, we can become what we imagine.
And yet, most people go through life letting their imaginations run on autopilot, influenced by fears and doubts.
But when you awaken your imagination, you start steering it towards what you desire.
This state is essential for manifesting because it allows us to tap into the energy of our desires and bring them into existence.
How to Use Your Imagination to Manifest Whatever You Want
I love this quote by Einstein:
“Imagination is more important than knowledge.”
We’re literally creating reality with our imagination.
But what does this truly mean for you and me?
It means that if we can see it in our mind’s eye, we can feel its presence in our inner world.
Let me share a little secret with you:
The subconscious mind loves familiarity.
The subconscious is a part of our mind that governs most of our beliefs and behaviors.
When we immerse ourselves in the sensory-rich experience of our dreams—seeing the colors, hearing the sounds, feeling the textures—we’re saying to it “This is my reality now.“
As these words echo through it, the subconscious begins to orchestrate the experiences and opportunities that align with our desires.
This is how we can use our imagination to create the life we want.
Now, directing your imagination towards your desired outcomes isn’t always easy.
That’s why we use techniques to help us.
So, let’s share some of them!
The Law of Assumption
The Law of Assumption states that whatever we assume to be true becomes our reality.
In other words, our beliefs shape our experiences.
If you want to manifest something new in your life, you must first change your assumptions about what’s possible for you.
For example, if you subconsciously believe that you’ll never be successful, it’s unlikely that you’ll experience success.
But if you assume that success is possible for you and believe it with all your heart, you’ll start to see evidence of success in your life.
How to Train Your Imagination With the Law of Assumption Step-By-Step
You can train your imagination by focusing on positive assumptions through affirming and monitoring your inner conversations.
Here are the three steps to do it:
Step 1: Define Your Desire Clearly
Before you can assume possession of your desire, you must be crystal clear about what it is.
Whether it’s a new job, a loving relationship, or improved health, define it in vivid detail.
Imagine how it feels, looks, and impacts your life.
Step 2: Create a Statement That Assumes Fulfillment
Craft statements that affirm your desire as already fulfilled.
For instance, if your goal is to manifest a new job, instead of saying, “I want a new job,” affirm, “I am so grateful for my new job that values my talents.“
You can use one or a few, as long as they imply the same thing.
These affirmations should be in the present tense, implying that the desire is already true.
The point is:
In your mind, talk to yourself as you already have the desire you want.
Constantly remind yourself that you already have your desire in your inner conversations.
Inner conversations are the dialogues you have with yourself
Step 3: Monitor Your Mental Diet
Your mental diet consists of the thoughts, beliefs, and assumptions you consume and entertain daily.
Consciously monitor and adjust your mental diet to support your desired state.
When you catch yourself entertaining doubts or negative assumptions, gently redirect your thoughts back to your positive affirmations and the state of your wish fulfilled.
State Akin to Sleep (SATS)
State Akin to Sleep (SATS) is a meditative state where you’re neither fully awake nor fully asleep but somewhere in between.
Neville Goddard emphasized the advantage of visualizing your desired outcome in a state akin to sleep.
I use SATS regularly by visualizing my goals right before sleep. It’s during these times that our minds are most pliable and capable of accepting new beliefs as reality.
In this state, the subconscious mind is highly receptive to suggestion and visualization.
To practice SATS, simply relax in a comfortable position and imagine your desired outcome as vividly as possible.
SATS can be a game-changer for manifestation because it allows you to bypass limiting beliefs and tap into the power of your subconscious mind.
It’s a powerful way to use your imagination to get your desired outcome.
How to Use Your Imagination to Visualize Your Desired Outcome in SATS
Here’s a step-by-step guide to harnessing SATS:
Step 1: Achieve a State Akin to Sleep
Finding a comfortable place where you can relax without falling asleep too quickly. Lie down or recline in a chair, ensuring your body is in a position that won’t cause discomfort over time.
Start with deep, slow breaths to initiate relaxation. Focus on releasing tension from every part of your body, from your toes to your head. This step is crucial for entering the SATS.
The goal is to reach a state of consciousness akin to sleep, where your body is deeply relaxed, but your mind retains a degree of awareness. The best time to do this is right before falling asleep at night or upon waking in the morning.
Step 3: Construct a Scene Implied by the Wish Fulfilled
Now, with your body relaxed and your mind alert, begin to construct a scene in your imagination that implies your wish is already fulfilled.
This scene should be something simple, that if true, would imply your desire has already manifested.
For example, if you want a new job, imagine shaking hands with your new boss or working at your new desk.
Step 4: Involve All Senses in Your Visualization
As you construct this scene, involve all your senses to make it as vivid as possible. What do you see, hear, touch, taste, and smell? The more sensory details you can include, the more real it feels to your subconscious mind. If you’re visualizing a new home, imagine the feel of the key in your hand, the sound of the door opening, the smell of fresh paint, and the warmth of the sunlight through the windows.
Step 5: Embody the Feeling
While visualizing, it’s essential to embody the feeling of your wish.
How does achieving your desire make you feel?
Happy, grateful, excited?
Embrace these emotions as if your wish is your current reality.
This emotional resonance is a key component in signaling to your subconscious that this is your new reality.
Step 6: Repeat Until It Feels Real
Repeat this visualization process, maintaining the sensory details and emotional states, until the scene feels real to you. There’s no set duration for this step; it may take a few minutes or longer. The objective is to reach a point where your imagined scenario feels as real as any physical experience.
Embody the State of Your Desire Fulfilled
As mentioned, to manifest your desires effectively, you must embody the state of your desire fulfilled.
This means feeling as if your desire has already manifested in your reality.
For example, if you want to manifest a loving relationship, focus on feeling loved and cherished as if you’re already in that relationship.
When you embody the state of your desire fulfilled, you align yourself with your desire and attract it into your reality.
It’s not enough to think and occasionally visualize what you want.
You have to start feeling and acting as if it’s already yours.
This practice will solidify your assumption in your subconscious, making it your default state of being.
How to Use Your Imagination to Assume the Feeling
This is about aligning your current self with the version of you who already has what you desire.
This doesn’t mean you ignore your current 3d reality but choose to live from the state of your desire being fulfilled.
To start embodying the version of you who had already achieved your desired outcome, ask yourself:
- What thoughts would I have on a daily basis?
- How would you feel?
- What decisions would I make?
- How would I make decisions?
- How would people respond to me?
- What would I look like?
- How would I dress?
- What would my life look like?
Once you have your answers, start gradually implementing these traits and behaviors in your daily life.
Carry the feeling of your wish fulfilled with you throughout your day.
Constantly remind yourself to get in your preferred state.
This shift in mindset and behavior will attract opportunities that turn that vision into reality.
How to Use Your Imagination: The Science
In case you’re still thinking – Imagination? That’s child’s play! No way it can help me manifest things.
Let me tell you, it’s so much more than that.
The connection between imagination and manifestation is grounded in scientific research.
For example, one study showed that the more vividly we imagine something, the more likely we’ll believe it’s real.
Another study shows that imagination activates the same brain regions as experiencing it does. This study was about imagining a negative experience specifically. It implies that imagination can be a powerful tool in overcoming phobias or post-traumatic stress.
Lastly, in one incredible study people imagined flexing their muscles, really focusing on the workout, without physically moving a muscle. And guess what? They actually became stronger! It’s like their bodies responded to their mental gym sessions.
