Are you tired of constantly fixating on your current circumstances and feeling stuck in a never-ending cycle of trying to change them? Or keep hearing the phrase “circumstances don’t matter” but feel confused and powerless about how to actually leverage this truth? If so, keep reading, because today we’re diving deep into Neville Goddard’s teachings to explain how and why circumstances do not matter.

Neville Goddard and the Law of Assumption
First, let’s briefly introduce Neville Goddard.
Neville was a manifestation teacher and a leading figure in the New Thought movement. He taught extensively about manifestation and other spiritual topics.
Neville also introduced the Law of Assumption to us. (Not to be confused with the Law of Attraction!)
The Law of Assumption states that whatever we assume to be true, must become our reality. The only condition is that we persist in our assumption.
Of course, this contradicts everything that we, as humans, are taught. We are led to believe that everything we perceive with our physical senses is real. So, we often use this belief as a justification for why we can’t change.
Now, let’s take a look at what Neville had to say about circumstances:
“A change of circumstance happens as a result of a change in your state of consciousness.“
This is where most people who try manifesting get stuck and confused. They interpret this statement as all they have to do is think about what they want, and it will magically appear. But the truth is, there is more to it than that.
Now, don’t get me wrong, thinking about your desires is still a necessary step in the manifesting process.
The issue arises when people only focus on the thinking aspect of changing their circumstances. They become fixated on what they desire but fail to take into account the most crucial step – feeling.
How Feeling Shapes 3d Reality
Neville Goddard himself talked about the importance of feeling in his teachings, stating that “feeling is the secret.”
In other words, it’s not enough to just think about what you want. You must also feel it as if it were already real.
You see, the feeling is a sign that our subconscious mind is accepting the suggestion.
The feeling of the wish fulfilled is the secret to manifesting!
As long as you think about your desire, but don’t feel it as true, it is a sign that your subconscious mind doesn’t believe in it yet.
In his book “Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself” Dr. Joe Dispenza, a neuroscientist and author, also talks about this principle.
He explains how our thoughts and feelings create an electromagnetic field that affects our reality.
The key here is that feelings are a vital component in manifesting what we want.
If you’re just fixating on your desired circumstances and not truly feeling them real, you’re only living in a fantasy world, which will not bring about the change you desire.
Now, when I say “feeling,” this doesn’t necessarily mean you have to experience strong emotions. It can also refer to an inner sense of knowing, peace, or relief.
Question to ponder:
How would you feel if your desire was already true?
Don’t let your mind wander, just focus on answering this exact question.
Perception Is Feedback
When we encounter circumstances in our 3d reality, they are direct reflections of our inner state.
This is what the concept of “Everyone Is You Pushed Out” is about. The external situations and people mirror our internal beliefs.
For instance, let’s say you perceive your colleagues as unfriendly. This might reflect your inner belief that you are not likable or deserving of friendship.
This brings us to the crux of the issue:
People fail to use their current circumstances as feedback to change their state of consciousness.
Instead, they get lost in their heads. They either overanalyze or daydream about their desires, without introspection or a shift in their self-concept.
As a result, they continue to attract the same circumstances because they haven’t changed their state of consciousness.
Why Circumstances Don’t Matter
So, why do circumstances not matter?
Circumstances don’t matter because they are simply reflections of our assumptions – our beliefs and perceptions about ourselves and what we deserve.
Their value is in the feedback they give us, but they don’t really determine the future outcomes we’re going to experience. It is our assumptions that determine the outcomes we get.
Assumptions or beliefs are formed between 0-7 years old when we are most impressionable. At this age, we are like sponges. We absorb everything around us, including implicit messages that shape our assumptions.
Then, these assumptions define the dominant state of consciousness in which we spend most of our lives.
But the good news is that we can change our assumptions.
How to Change Your Assumptions and Finally Manifest Your Desires
So how can we change our assumptions and leverage the truth that circumstances don’t matter to finally manifest what we want?
It all starts with taking a deep look within ourselves and becoming aware of our assumptions. Once we identify them, we can challenge them and replace them with more empowering ones.
1. Identify Recurring Patterns:
Changing your assumptions starts with introspection, understanding where they come from, and consciously choosing to shift them.
Notice the recurring situations or feelings in your life. Becoming aware of these patterns is the first step towards change.
Ask yourself:
What thoughts and beliefs might be causing these patterns?

2. Shift Your Inner State
To embody the state of your desired reality, you can use techniques like:
For example, if you desire abundance, practice feeling abundant by imagining scenarios where you have plenty. Affirmations like “I am abundant” help shift to an abundance mindset and align with this new reality.
3. Persist in Your New Assumptions
Persistence is key to manifestation.
Continuously align your thoughts and feelings with your desired state, disregarding or ignoring the current circumstances.
Techniques such as scripting your ideal scenarios can reinforce your new assumptions. You can also visualize or meditate on your goals.

4. Let Go of Your Circumstances
Once you identify the patterns that are perpetuating your circumstances you must let them go for good.
When you let go, you allow your subconscious mind to work in its own time and way.
Regularly check in with yourself to ensure you are not clinging to your current circumstances or waiting for them to change.
If you find yourself worrying, use a quick mindfulness exercise to bring yourself back to the present moment.
How to Do It:
- Close your eyes and take a deep breath in through your nose, filling your lungs completely.
- Slowly exhale through your mouth.
- Continue to breathe deeply, paying attention to the sensation of the air entering and leaving your body.
- If your mind starts to wander, gently bring your focus back to your breath.
Circumstances Don’t Matter: Final Thoughts
The truth that the circumstances don’t matter lies in realizing that they are only a reflection of our assumptions.
When we change these assumptions, we shift our state of consciousness and attract different circumstances. But this can only be done through genuine introspection and feeling as if our desires have already come true.
So, don’t just fixate on your desires! Instead, focus on changing your internal state to unlock the power within you and manifest the life you truly desire.

Thank you. This post made me realize that I have been wavering between having full faith in my desires and looking for signs in the outer world. Sometimes it’s really challenging for me to change my perception of the current circumstances.
