Manifesting Secrets of a Successful Mental Diet [Neville Goddard]
Do you ever find yourself consumed with bad or depressive thoughts and emotions? Do you feel your mind is working against you rather than for you? If so, it’s time to change your mental diet.
Just as you nourish your body with healthy food, you also need to nourish your mind with positive thoughts and emotions.

A mental diet is a way to take control of your thoughts and emotions in order to manifest your desires. The idea is to focus on positive, empowering thoughts and eliminate negative, limiting ones. To achieve that, we should pay attention to our thoughts and redirect them when they are unhelpful.
I am a big proponent of this concept because I know from experience how effective it can be. Once I started monitoring my thoughts, my life drastically changed. For the better, of course.
The Origin of the Mental Diet: Neville Goddard and Emmet Fox
The concept of “mental diet” was popularized by Emmet Fox, a spiritual leader, in his book “The Seven Day Mental Diet.” He wrote about how our thoughts and beliefs shape our reality and how we can change our lives by changing our thinking patterns.
Neville Goddard, another new thought author, also spoke about the power of inner conversations in his teachings. He emphasized the importance of assuming the feeling of the wish fulfilled.
Neville Goddard taught the law of assumption. This law suggests that if we assume the state of consciousness that corresponds to our desired outcome, we can manifest it into our lives.
This means that we must first assume that our desires are already ours. Once we adopt these assumptions as our truth, our reality will begin to reflect back to us what we believe to be true. So it’s in your best interest to think as if you already have your desire.
Both Fox and Neville claimed that our thoughts and beliefs create our reality.
Many other spiritual teachers and authors have written about the importance of positive self-talk. For example, Dr. Joseph Murphy, Florence Scovel Shinn, and Wayne Dyer, to name a few.
This idea of observing your inner thoughts is also closely related to the law of attraction. So, if you already use the law of attraction, this will only enhance its effect.
How Does Mental Diet Work?
No worries. I won’t give you “just think happy thoughts” talk.
Our thoughts, beliefs, and emotions deeply influence the subconscious mind. When we consistently think and feel a certain way, it creates a pattern that gets imprinted into our subconscious. This pattern can either support or hinder our desires.
By practicing a positive mental diet, we can shift our subconscious programming to be in alignment with our goals and aspirations.
That is important for manifesting because the thoughts we dwell on and believe in greatly affect our beliefs and behavior and ultimately shape our reality.
Think of it like planting a garden. You want to nurture the seeds of positivity and weed out the negative inner talk that can choke your growth. It takes consistent effort and attention, but the results are worth it.
Changing your internal dialogue could easily be the best practice for manifestation ever.
So, if you want to manifest something, start by paying attention to your thoughts. And then noticing when they are negative or limiting.
When you catch your negative internal conversations, you should make a conscious effort to redirect them towards positivity. This could be through affirmations, visualization, or simply choosing to focus on the good in your life.
To create the life you desire, you need to imprint your desires on your subconscious.
We’ll explore some of those ideas next.
Manifest by Controlling Your Inner Conversations
Have you ever stopped to listen to the conversations happening inside your mind? If you haven’t, you might be surprised by what you hear.
We tend to second-guess and criticize ourselves in our minds. Sometimes we’re not even aware that we’re doing it.
We also replay the conversations we had with others. Usually, more often than we would like to admit.
Now, why is this so important?
As I’ve mentioned, our mental conversations, the thoughts that we have about ourselves and our lives, have a powerful impact on what we experience in the external world.
That’s why learning to control your inner conversations is a fundamental step in manifesting your desires.
One way to do this is to pay attention to conversations inside our minds. Are they positive and supportive, or negative and critical?
If they’re negative, it’s time to take control and shift the conversation.
Make sure that your inner conversations match your fulfilled desire.
Mental diets help us stop talking and thinking about things we don’t wish to experience.
Mental Diet Involves 3 Steps:
Now I’ll show you how I teach my clients to monitor and influence their inner conversations, so you can get your manifestation too.
Here are 3 steps you should take to start controlling your inner conversations:
- Become aware of your thoughts: Start paying attention to the thoughts that come up throughout the day. Notice if they’re positive or negative and how they make you feel.
- Challenge negative mind chatter: When you notice a negative inner talk, challenge it. Ask yourself if it’s really true and if there’s a more positive way to view the situation – and it always is!
- Reframe your thoughts: Once you’ve challenged a negative thought, reframe it in a positive way. For example, if you catch yourself thinking “I’ll never be able to do that,” reframe it as “I can learn how to do that with practice and patience.” Just replace a negative thought with a better one.
When you get a little more experienced with this process, you can skip the second step and do just steps 1 and 3.
Remember, your inner conversations shape your reality. If you commit to this practice, you can drastically improve your life.
It will help you achieve your goal as quickly as possible. But it’s important to persist even when the world around you seems to show the opposite of what you desire.
The process itself is actually quite simple. But catching negative thoughts or negative beliefs, it’s the tricky part.
Checking How You Feel
Studies suggest that up to 95% of our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are driven by unconscious beliefs. Meaning we are not always aware of them.
That’s why you have to pay a lot of attention to your inner world. Not just to your thoughts. Pay attention to your feelings too. Checking how you feel can help to find out how you actually think on a subconscious level.
So, what’s your dominant mood?
If your mood is good most of the time, your inner talk is probably fine too.
However, a bad mood indicates negative inner talk. So, when negative emotions arise, check the thought that triggered them and replace it with something positive. That is how we discover our unconscious beliefs!
But don’t worry. With persistence, monitoring your thoughts will become second-nature to you.
If we use the mental diet properly, we can easily align ourselves with our desires. By doing so, we’ll manifest those desires in no time!
Good tip: It’s best to avoid social media and TV since they often rely on negative news to capture your attention. That can affect your mood.
Affirmations
To improve your inner talk, you can practice affirming. Create affirmations that reflect your desired reality. They should be in the present tense.
It’s also important to create affirmations that focus on what you want rather than what you don’t want.
For example, instead of saying, “I don’t want to be in debt,” you could say “I am financially abundant and free.” Instead of saying “I don’t want to be alone,” you could say “I am in a supportive, loving relationship.”
You can shift your whole inner state by focusing on what you want and creating a positive inner dialogue.
Then, you will begin to manifest the experiences you desire.
So don’t wait! Start replacing negative internal conversations with positive affirmations that will help you achieve your life goals.
Meditation Practice
During meditation, you are encouraged to sit in stillness and to be observant of your thoughts without judgment. This is called mindfulness meditation.
Meditation is best done in a quiet and comfortable place. To relax, simply close your eyes and focus on your breath. Then, all you have to do is observe your thoughts.
Mindfulness meditation helps you to focus on thoughts. By doing so, you become more aware of the inner chatter that is running through your mind. It’s an excellent way to notice your negative inner talk.
As you become more observant of your thoughts through meditation, you’ll start to notice when negative or limiting thoughts arise.
This awareness can then help you to shift your thoughts in a more positive and empowering direction. It will make you understand what’s going on in your head.
Create Your Reality as You Wish
Ready to create an entirely new reality?
If you clear your mind of all the negative inner talk, you’ll drastically speed up your manifestation journey. Finally, you can become the person you want.
But be patient with yourself. You’re learning a new way of thinking and being!
By monitoring your thoughts and controlling your inner talk, you can attract the experiences you desire. Of course, it takes practice, but the results are worth it.
